Yes, we had another snow day. It was beautiful and definitely fell the fastest of all the snows we have had over the past 3 weeks. We ended up with 8 inches in about 5 hours!
The official ruler measurement was taken mid afternoon and then we got a little more of top of that. It was snowing so hard for awhile that we didn't try to go out. Then Bekah decided she did want her picture in the snow. She made it as far as the back porch, smiled for the camera and was ready to come back in.
We did have some snow day fun planned though. Earlier this week while Rachel and Bekah were doing their schoolwork at the table, we noticed a little sparrow in the back porch. Brent had put cat food out for the cats and this little bird was doing his best to eat those big (for him) pieces of cat food. He would peck and drop the food and peck again and repeat until he had eaten at least a couple of pieces. I wish I could have gotten his picture but I knew I couldn't open the door without him flying away since he was only about 2 feet away on the other side of the door. He probably worked on that food for 10 to 15 minutes before flying away. The girls christened him or her "Tweet Tweet" and have talked about that little bird all week. We talked about how the birds were having to try to find food where there was ground that was not covered with snow which led to today's snow project.
We found some pinecones which the girls coated in peanut butter. I am very glad I put out cookie sheets for this project because they did have a great time smearing the peanut butter everywhere including but not just on the pinecones.
Here they are rolling their pinecones in the birdseed.
Here are the finished treats for "Tweet Tweet" and family.
The snow finally tapered off enough after 5 pm for us to be able to get out a little bit. What to you do when you are ready for it to be spring soon and it is still snowing? These girls headed straight for the swing set. They spent the majority of their time outside today on the swing set. I could see them out the window but I missed a picture because I was still getting Bethany ready. After swinging, they wanted to hang their birdseed cones. Bekah helped hang 2 of them in the small tree and then Rachel hung 2 in the bigger tree with her Dad's help.
She also scattered some extra birdseed for the birds and filled the birdhouse and left the door open for them too.
Here is the little helper. For the first time this winter, she actually stayed awake the full few minutes we were outside (she had just woken up from a nap).
This evening we finished up with one more snow day craft. In the Bible in the book of Matthew, it talks about how God cares for the sparrows and even more so, that He will take care of us. I want the girls to understand that God gives us His world and the little creatures in it to be good stewards of and also how very much God loves us and takes care of us. So we made sparrows to remind us of these truths in God's Word.

The little craft supervisor was very interested in her teether. Her big sisters worked together to make a sparrow and nest for her.
Here is Rachel with her sparrow.
