A Visit with Uncle Jason and Aunt Brittany

This past weekend we enjoyed a visit from Uncle Jason and Aunt Brittany. They drove up on Friday morning and we spent the day together. We did a special day trip on Saturday and then they were able to stay and go to church with us on Sunday before they had to head back to NC for work and school.
Earlier in the day on Friday, we just spent some time catching up with them and letting the girls enjoy playing with them. This was actually the first time they had been inside our home. Uncle Jared and Aunt Brooke were able to visit us in July and both sets of grandparents had visited, but this is the first time Uncle Jason and Aunt Brittany had been able to come since we moved in. The last time they visited, we had made an offer on our home but had not closed yet, so they hadn't been inside yet.
Friday afternoon, we decided to go out for a short hike. We headed to Cole (Cold) Mountain outside Buena Vista. This is a pretty easy hike along the Appalachain Trail. Rachel began hiking but quickly figured out she could convince Uncle Jason to carry her! He was a good sport about this and carried her some to give her some breaks from hiking.

Rachel and Aunt Brittany had several adventures as you can see below, including finding a rock "cave" and playing "in the trees," according to Rachel.

Once we reached the summit, we found out it was pretty foggy. We spent a little time waiting to see if the clouds would break a little for us to see the sunset. The girls enjoyed some time with their aunt and uncle while we waited.

The clouds did finally break for about 10 seconds and Brent had to take pictures very fast to get any pictures before the light faded. Here is one I snapped and then it was foggy again.

Rebekah and Aunt Brittany getting supper ready
We headed back down the trail. I think it was the first time Jason and Brittany had hiked back down a trail after sunset. We all had a good time and were glad to get back to have some supper! Nothing like a hike to work up an appetite. Brent and Jason were in charge of grilling the hotdogs and hamburgers while the girls got the sides and the S'mores ingredients ready for the campfire after supper.

This little hiker was so tired she slept until campfire time
