A Day in DC by Rachel and Bekah

One of the assignments I gave Rachel and Bekah when we got back from our Washington DC trip was to make a booklet about our day in DC. Rachel has done this for me for several trips or topics now. We actually found the first booklet she wrote, when she was 5, the other day. It was called "Things I like to Do" and it was so cute.
I loved seeing our DC trip and what they thought were the highlights of the trip from their drawings. Yes, little sister has learned to climb up in the big girl chair and color while they are doing schoolwork too. Here they are working on their booklets.
Here is Rachel's cover. She drew all the monuments and noted that it is written and illustrated by her. Just in case you missed it, the gentleman drawn in the letter D is George Washington, according to Rachel. In the letter C is Abraham Lincoln.

She loved seeing the Hope Diamond and all the gems and minerals and all the jewelry and crowns in the Natural History Museum.

If you ask Rachel what her favorite part of the trip was, her answer is always the same: The Wright Brothers plane.
I had to put a close up of her drawing of the plane. This is Rachel, Bekah and Bethany looking at the Wright Brothers plane. Check out their Ooh and Wow at seeing the plane. She was very detailed-Bethany even has her little ponytail on top of her head!
We saw a very neat display of the American flag that Francis Scott Key saw over the harbor when he wrote "The Star Spangled Banner." There was no photography allowed in the exhibit, but this is Rachel's drawing of that flag.
This was her description of her ride with her dad on the flight simulator-that is, the pretend space shuttle.
Of course, on the way back home, we rode the Metro

She did a great job with her book about our trip and I loved seeing all the things she learned and remembered from the trip.

Bekah actually worked a little on her own book too. We didn't get words added yet, but I loved her little drawings.

This was her American flag, from the American History Museum, with just a little bit of help.
This is Bekah's drawing of herself seeing the Hope Diamond.

This is Bekah's drawing of the Washing Monument with the sunset and full rainbow.
I was proud of both the girls and their hard work on their booklets. It was fun to see our day in DC through their eyes.
