Blog CatchUp Part 2: Merry Christmas 2012

 Happy Birthday, Jesus!

Christmas Eve we headed to church for our Christmas Eve Service. The manger is a big deal at our house and at church leading up to Christmas. Both girls were fascinated this year and we had to check on the manger and Baby Jesus every time we were at church. I couldn't resist getting a picture of Rebekah in the manger. All she could do last year was lay in the manger. This year she is everywhere!

Children's story at the Christmas Eve service

I mentioned that the manger and Baby Jesus were a focus at home too. We actually have our own manger at home. A wonderful gentleman from our church, Mr. Wayne, made me and our girls each a manger. So on Christmas morning, the manger is in front of the tree before we open our presents. We do this with our children to remind them, and ourselves, that Jesus is the greatest gift at Christmas and all through the year and that we give gifts to others because Jesus gave us the greatest gift, Himself, so that we might have new life in Him

Then we did open our gifts. I quickly figured out that what we had picked out for Rachel was Rebekah's favorite present and the same as true for Rachel with Rebekah's toys. Oh well, I guess it is a good thing they get to play with all their new toys together!

"What do you mean, this is not a new chair?"

Waiting for the Christmas Lasagna

Happy Birthday, Jesus!

We attempted to do a Christmas campfire in the afternoon but quickly found out that all our wood was too wet. Christmas campfire is definitely on our list for next Christmas. We did sing and enjoy our birthday cake for Jesus's Birthday. Of course, we also had Christmas lasagna. This is a tradition from Brent's family. Neither he nor his brothers are huge fans of ham or turkey apparently, so his mom began fixing lasagna on Christmas Eve when they were growing up. So we have continued the Christmas lasagna tradition.
What a blessing to be able to celebrate Jesus and all He has done for us! We pray that we remember that what began at Christmas with Jesus coming into the world as a baby in a wooden manger culminates on a wooden cross as Jesus takes our place and all the wrong we have done that we may have forgiveness and new life in Him. What a reason to celebrate throughout the year!

"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for  righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed."     1 Peter 2:24
