March 2022: Savannah in the Springtime

Late in March, we took a short photography trip to explore part of the Lowcountry that was new to us! We began just north of Charleston.  What an absolutely beautiful area!

We headed to Shem Creek for supper and we had some delicious seafood!
It was a bit rainy the next day but we dodged the rain and still had a walk on the beach. We even found a starfish!

Since the rainy weather cleared out overnight but left some clouds behind, we were treated to a gorgeous sunrise the next morning at Folly Beach!

The end goal of our trip was to spend some time exploring and photographing Savannah so after sunrise we began to make our way south. On the way, we stopped by one of our very favorite restaurants for lunch. Anytime we are within an hour of there, we try to plan a stop at Roxbury Mercantile!

We made it to the Savannah area in time for a little photography, check in at our state park campground and sunset on Tybee Island. After sunset, we had an amazing time at The Crab Shack on Tybee Island. This is not just a restaurant-it is a destination! The biggest surprise of all was the live alligators in holding pond just outside the front door. It's not every day that you eat supper and check on the alligators on your way out the door!

After a full day of travel, photography and good food, we were headed to bed. Our next day would begin early too and would be filled with all things Savannah!

We started at Bonaventure not long after sunrise when there was still soft morning light.

We headed back to our campground for lunch and a little campground time!

We had some of the largest, most beautiful trees around our campground at Skidaway Island State Park.
We headed to a beautiful nearby plant nursery to pick up a piece of Savannah.
We then headed into downtown Savannah to spend to afternoon. We spent some time to the different squares, walked along the Riverwalk, visited the Candy Kitchen and had some ice cream along the river and had our picture made with the Georgia Queen.

The budding photographer was setting up his tripod for the best image!
We finished the day in Forsyth Park at this beautiful fountain!

We had one last day in Savannah and we headed to the spot Brent had been most looking forward to photographing- Wormsloe
It was a beautiful morning for photography along the tree covered lane.

After we finished our time at Wormsloe, we headed back to our campground for lunch and doughtnuts and a quick hike in the state park before it was time to get back on the road.

We enjoyed our time in the Lowcountry and in and around Savannah! It was great to explore some new spots as a family!
